Das Island is a critical industrial hub for the United Arab Emirates' offshore oil and gas industry, located approximately 160 km (100 miles) northwest of the Abu Dhabi mainland in the Persian Gulf. It is a restricted, man-made island primarily inhabited by around 6,000 industry personnel on a rotational basis.The island serves as a major processing, storage, and export base for crude oil, liquefied natural gas (LNG), and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) extracted from nearby offshore fields like Umm Shaif and Zakum.
